This fish is available in Manipur and they are being imported from Myanmar or other states of India and people generally refer to it as Pengba Manbi or Pengba Amubi. In Assam, it is called Chandarupa. But looking closely at it, it has got sharp teeth which local people of Myanmar at times use in place of scissors to trim hair. Is this fish a variety of the dreaded Piranha? Expert comments are welcome...

ReplyDeleteThank you Ningthou Kangleingakpa..
ReplyDeleteVery nice Pengba this is my first I saw thank you. How much it will be cost?
ReplyDeleteThis is not Pengba (Osteobrama belangeri). Its Pecu (Piaractus brachypomus) usually sold as Pengba Manbi in Manipur and sold at higher price. Don't make yourself fool out of this Fish.
ReplyDeleteIt cost merely Rs 100/kg in other parts of India.
